It started with a Chalkboard…

Working in bars and restaurants I’ve always been interested in the way that signs affect people.

In 2017, at a bar called Pete and Shorty’s in Florida, I created an easel chalkboard design for the Super Bowl. My boss loved it, and asked if I would be willing to create a new design everyday for the restaurant and to post the chalkboards on social media.

Slowly but surely, after a move and a lot of life transitions I settled in Ypsilanti, Michigan where I continued to seek out businesses, restaurants and events to continue my chalkboard services. Chalk became window painting, and murals and I decided to go by the name Chalk Boss Ypsi.

Eventually, I realized what I was doing was essentially graphic design, but with no training. In 2020 I decided to go back to school and get my Graphic Design Associates degree at Washtenaw Community College. I’ve worked with tons of local brands and businesses along the way.

I am incredibly grateful to all of those who have trusted me with their businesses, and pushed me towards the pursuit of creative goals. Without their support I don’t know that I would be doing what I love today.
